Here they go again with the frivolous lawsuits. Next we will see a wave of settlement announcements for just under what it would cost to defend the defendants against the suit. When will someone throw these ridiculous claims out and nullify these patents that have clear prior art from years before they filed the patents? Our patent system is a mess and is now just being used as revenue stream in our court system. Companies choose not to fight, because these companies (J2=Catch Curve) make it too costly too. I need to catch up with what happened with GoDaddy and Venali’s suits against Catch Curve.

Southeast Texas Record | Recent patent infringement cases filed in U.S. District Courts
Catch Curve claims to own the rights to U.S. Patent Nos. 6,785,021 and 7,365,884 for a Facsimile Telecommunications System and Method.
The plaintiff alleges defendants infringe the ‘021 and ‘884 Patents by making, using and selling Internet fax services. Defendants include American Voicemail, Broadfax Inc., Business Link International, Fax911, Faxbin.com, Faxts Now Inc., Hi-Tech Solutions, Interfax S, People Line Telecom, Shadowstorage Inc., SRFax, Stonevoice, Telecentrex Inc., Voice Mail Depot and XiFax Ltd.

Internet Fax is known by many different names such as emailfax, online fax, electronic fax, e fax or even digital fax.Regardless of what you call it, Internet Fax simply measuring your email system and the Internet to send and receive your faxes via email attachments usually in PDF or TIFF formats. You have an online interface (site) where you can not only store your faxes but also where you send and receive your faxes.
In addition, many providers will let you fax thru a desktop application or directly thru your email program.Internet faxing has become very popular mainly because itis relatively inexpensive and it lets you send and receive your faxes anywhere, anytime. It is more secure than theold fax machine and since it is web based, you can basically fax wherever you have Internet access and these days that’s just about everywhere.

Internet fax is environmentally sounds in terms of saving electricity and paper to some extent. I agree with the basic concept of this, but one also has to consider the server electricity use. In the end the reduction of paper use due to Internet fax (IP Fax) will help and if we can eliminate fax machines running 24 hours a day, that should help as well. 1000s of efax accounts on one server should use far less than 1000s of fax machines that are currently running.
According to DJ MacIntyre, President of renewable energy advocate Le Boisé Alternatives, “If you run a fax machine 24/7, you create 80 Kg of greenhouse gas per year in our area. That’s a lot considering how infrequently it’s actually used.”Greenhouse gases lead to global warming. Global warming leaves polar bears stranded on ice chunks.
And the rest is history — literally, the most alarming environmental crisis in the books. In addition to consuming energy, fax machines also use paper, which is too often wasted on unnecessary cover pages, fax reports and faulty fax transmissions. Internet fax industry leader MyFax recognizes this fact, reporting that “[if 1% of all paper faxes sent in America each year were sent electronically, 73.5 million trees would be saved.”
