Unless they adapt somehow, I fully expect fax server companies like this to start seeingCaptaris rightfax logo steady declines in revenue from new software sales and continued maintenance. They aren’t seeing much yet, but the declining software revenue says a lot. I find it very interesting that these companies continue to hold on to a failed model. The market has changed and it will dramatically change in the next 18 months as thousands of companies begin the switch to Internet Fax services.

Captaris Reports First Quarter 2007 Financial Results
Captaris, Inc. , a leading provider of software products that automate document-centric processes, today reported financial results for its first quarter ended March 31, 2007.

Total revenue for the first quarter was $20.5 million, a 5% increase over the prior year’s first quarter. Revenue by category compared to the first quarter of 2006 was as follows:

– Software revenue was $7.1 million, a decrease of $194,000 or 3% — Maintenance, support and service revenue was $9.4 million, an increase of $1.1 million or
13% — Hardware revenue was $4.0 million, an increase of $63,000 or 2%

Gross profit was $14.3 million, up $335,000 from the same quarter last year, and gross margin was 69.5%, down from 71.1% in the same quarter last year.
